Tap any paragraph and Roshni reads it back, highlighting each word as it's spoken. Speed ranges from 0.6x to 1.5x, and you can tap any single word to hear it in isolation — useful for sounding out something tricky mid-sentence, without losing your place in the passage.
Overlay + spacing, together
Colour overlays reduce the visual "swimming" some readers experience, while wider letter and word spacing gives each character room to be recognised on its own. Roshni lets you tune both independently and saves the combination to your profile, so it's the same on a phone, a tablet, or the school computer.

Does Roshni diagnose dyslexia?
No. Roshni is a support tool, not a diagnostic or medical service. If the app's patterns suggest a student may benefit from a formal evaluation, we'll say so clearly and point you to a qualified professional — we never label a child on our own. If you're unsure where to start, our free 2-minute check gives a private summary and next steps.
Is my child's data safe?
We collect only what's needed to personalise practice and never sell student data. Parents and school administrators can view or delete a child's data at any time from account settings.
Can I cancel Roshni+ anytime?
Yes — cancel from your account in two taps, no phone call needed. Your account simply reverts to the free tier, and nothing you've built (streaks, saved settings, practice history) is lost.
Does it work for regional languages, not just English?
Roshni's menus, dashboards and parent reports are available in 14 languages from the language menu at the top — including Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Gujarati, French, Spanish, Italian, Chinese, Japanese and Korean. The reading lessons themselves teach English reading for now; lessons for reading in other languages are being planned. Free tools like font and overlay controls already work on any text you paste in.
Money questions, answered plainly
What happens to my data if I downgrade from Roshni+?
Nothing is deleted. Practice history, saved settings, and streaks stay exactly as they were — you just lose access to the AI companion, specialist sessions, and dashboard until you upgrade again.
Can one Roshni+ account cover more than one child?
Each Roshni+ subscription covers one student profile, since the AI companion adapts to an individual reading pattern. A family with more than one child can add extra profiles at a reduced rate — reach out through the Help page for current family pricing.
Is there a school or bulk plan?
Yes — Roshni for Schools covers a full classroom or grade at a per-student rate well below individual Roshni+ pricing, plus a shared teacher dashboard. Details are on the Empower page.
Where Roshni actually works
Does Roshni work on old school computers?
Yes — the core reading tools are built to run on low-spec machines and older browsers, since that's often exactly where students need them most. The AI companion needs a slightly newer browser, but gracefully falls back to standard read-aloud if it isn't supported.
Do I need an internet connection?
Only the first time you load a page. After that, core tools cache locally and keep working offline — useful for school labs with unreliable wifi.

Read-aloud isn't working on my school computer
Read-aloud uses the computer's built-in voice. Check the volume and that a voice is installed (Windows: Settings → Time & language → Speech). Chrome and Edge usually work best.
My overlay colour isn't saving
Overlay preferences are tied to your account, not the device. Make sure you're logged in (not browsing as a guest) before changing settings.
The dashboard isn't showing my child's progress
Progress data needs at least three practice sessions before trends appear. If it's been longer than a week with no data, check that the student and parent accounts are correctly linked.

What actually happens to your data
Your account, course progress, saved lessons and settings are stored in your browser on your own device. They are not uploaded to a Roshni server, and clearing your browser data erases them.
We only receive information you choose to send: messages from the contact form, school pilot and early-access requests, dyslexia-check summaries you ask us to email, and a short note when someone signs up (name, email, account type and class — never passwords). These arrive by email through a form service (FormSubmit) and are used only to reply and support you. We never sell personal data or use it for advertising.
Children under 18 need a parent or guardian's consent to keep an account. A parent, student or school can ask us to delete anything we've received by writing to support@roshni.com — we'll confirm within 7 days.
